SP—arte Brazilian Routes: The Celebration of National Art in its 3rd Edition

One of the great novelties of this edition is the artistic direction of Rodrigo Moura, chief curator of the Museo del Barrio, in New York. With a remarkable trajectory, including stints at MASP and Instituto Inhotim, Moura brings a new dynamic to the fair, stimulating solo, duo or thematic excerpts in participating galleries.

The highly anticipated third edition of SP—Arte Rotas Brasileiras is about to begin, bringing a rich celebration of national artistic production. From August 28 to September 1, ARCA, in São Paulo, will host this event, which promises to further consolidate its place in the city's cultural calendar. With the participation of 67 exhibitors and around 250 artists from 14 Brazilian states, the fair presents an impressive diversity, highlighting both emerging talents and renowned names in Brazilian art.

According to Fernanda Feitosa, founder and executive director of SP—Arte, “Rotas is a dive into Brazilian art. Each project is carefully thought out with galleries and their artists, resulting in a set of distinct and in-depth perspectives on our identity. In this third edition, Brazil's power and enormous cultural wealth are even more evident”.

News of the Edition: Artistic Direction by Rodrigo Moura

One of the great novelties of this edition is the artistic direction of Rodrigo Moura, chief curator of the Museo del Barrio, in New York. With a remarkable trajectory, including stints at MASP and Instituto Inhotim, Moura brings a new dynamic to the fair, stimulating solo, duo or thematic excerpts in participating galleries. “Rotas offers the possibility of creating dialogues around concepts and notions of identity and belonging,” says Moura. He was also responsible for creating Mirante, a sector that promises to be one of the highlights of the fair, bringing together large-scale and rarely exhibited works by artists such as Tunga, Adriana Varejão and new talents such as Jota Mombaça and Rebeca Carapiá.

Highlights and Premieres

This year, the fair brings together a cast of well-known exhibitors on the circuit, such as Almeida & Dale, Gomide&Co. and Millan, as well as newcomers such as Claraboia, Martins & Montero and Via Thorey. Among the galleries in the Northeast, the participation of names such as Paulo Darzé, RV Cultura e Arte, and Lima stands out, bringing the cultural richness of regions less explored in the contemporary art scene.

The fair also continues to honor the work of renowned Brazilian artists, with the participation of institutes and galleries dedicated to the preservation and dissemination of their productions, such as the Mario Cravo Neto Institute and the Moraes-Barbosa collection.

Programming and Immersive Experiences

In addition to the exhibitions, SP—Arte Rotas Brasileiras offers a series of immersive experiences. Casa SP—Arte, for example, will host its first international exhibition, with the Kurimanzutto gallery, featuring the work of the Colombian artist Oscar Murillo, in dialogue with icons of Brazilian art such as Lygia Clark and Hélio Oiticica.

The fair will also have thematic audio guides available on Spotify, prepared by Felipe Molitor and Lucas Albuquerque, which will provide an immersion in the booths, covering topics such as religious expressions and transatlantic diasporas. In the conversation program, visitors will be able to participate in debates on August 29 and 30, and, on the 31st, the Meet the Artist, in partnership with the magazine Bravo! , will allow direct contact with artists such as Ayrson Heráclito and Thiago Martins de Melo.
