ABERTO4 in Paris: a celebration of Brazilian architecture, art and design at Maison La Roche

The ABERTO platform, created by Filipe Assis in 2021 as a gesture of encounter between art, design and Brazilian modernist architecture, opens a new chapter with its first international edition. From 13 May to 8 June 2025, Maison La Roche in Paris, an icon designed by Le Corbusier and a UNESCO World Heritage site, hosts the initiative's fourth edition, reaffirming ABERTO's commitment to the circulation of Brazilian culture in transnational contexts.

Created originally in an Oscar Niemeyer residence in São Paulo, the platform gained recognition for its proposal of activating historic architectural spaces with exhibitions that put the past and the present of Brazilian creation under tension. Now, with ABERTO4, the experience expands into the symbolic field of cultural diplomacy, within the France-Brazil Season and the fiftieth anniversary of Le Corbusier's death.

ABERTO4 proposes a sensitive and architectural occupation of Maison La Roche, bringing some 40 works by Brazilian artists into direct dialogue with the legacy of the Franco-Swiss architect who so influenced modernist architecture in Brazil. The curation, by Filipe Assis, Lauro Cavalcanti, Claudia Moreira Salles and Kiki Mazzucchelli, explores visceral connections between spatiality, memory and form. “These houses offer an unexpected intimacy”, observes Moreira Salles of the space, where low ceilings and Eastern touches invite contemplation. Important galleries take part in the project, such as Mendes Wood DM, Fortes D'Aloia & Gabriel, Almeida & Dale, Nara Roesler, Mennour and Luisa Strina, consolidating the show as a collective gesture of visibility and presence for Brazilian art on the global contemporary map.
