Osesp opens Environment Week with springs by Boulanger and Schumann

Between June 4 and 6, Osesp and German conductor Marc Albrecht bring to the Sala São Paulo two musical portraits of spring that open the Environment Week program. Lili Boulanger's D'un matin de printemps and Robert Schumann's Symphony No. 1, "Spring", share the natural world as a common inspiration and, according to the orchestra, work almost like a model for thinking through a time of climate crisis.

Between the two works sits Schumann's Piano Concerto, from 1841, written in the happy period right after the composer had married: a declaration of love to Clara hidden within the music's own structure. The main theme rests on the notes C, B, A, A, which in German notation are written C, H, A, A, a direct reference to his beloved's affectionate nickname, Chiara. Argentine pianist Nelson Goerner leads the piece.

Friday's concert (June 5) is part of the Osesp duas e trinta series, starting at 2:30 p.m. with tickets at R$50. The Osesp Choir's performance on the same day, at the Estação Motiva Cultural, keeps the same ticket price. On Saturday (June 6), at 4:30 p.m., Osesp's performance will be livestreamed.
