Pernambuco-born artist Rayana Rayo opens "Ilha" on June 13 at Almeida & Dale, her first solo exhibition in São Paulo, curated by Cristiano Raimondi. It marks the artist's debut in the São Paulo capital, with a set of previously unseen paintings.
In "Ilha", elements evoking leaves, seeds and plant structures gradually transform into hybrid bodies, thorns and mutating surfaces. Between sky and water, the works build unstable ecosystems, in which different organisms seem to vibrate, float and expand without revealing what holds them up.
