Galatea returns to ArtRio with a panorama of modern and contemporary Brazilian art

From 10 to 14 September 2025, Galatea takes part in the 15th edition of ArtRio, at Marina da Glória, with a selection that crosses different generations of modern and contemporary Brazilian art. The set on show establishes dialogues between historical strands and current production, reinforcing the breadth and vitality of the national art circuit.

Connections between times and languages

The gallery brings together fundamental names of Brazilian art, such as Alfredo Volpi, Athos Bulcão, Franz Weissmann, Cildo Meireles, Mira Schendel, Rubem Valentim, Luiz Zerbini, José Resende and Julio Le Parc, alongside rising artists. Among them, Arthur Palhano stands out, officially joining Galatea's roster of represented artists from this edition on.

The curation proposes meetings between currents such as geometric constructivism, informal abstraction, popular art and textile production. In that crossing, works from distinct generations come closer, as in the solid paintings of Dani Cavalier, in dialogue with the textile forms of Jacques Douchez, making visual and conceptual affinities plain.

International and unseen highlights

The presentation also includes the work Airbags Rio (2013), by the British artist Sarah Morris, whose painting, marked by curves and blocks of saturated colour, reflects the pulsing rhythm of Rio de Janeiro, a recurring territory in her production.

Another highlight is the previously unseen work by Allan Weber, developed after his residency and exhibition at the De La Warr Pavilion, in the United Kingdom. The work widens his enquiries into memory, identity and performativity, exploring hybrid supports and installation in a new stage of his path.

A plural view of Brazilian art

The list of participants reaffirms Galatea's proposal of breadth, bringing together artists such as Ascânio MMM, Carolina Cordeiro, Estela Sokol, Edival Ramosa, Francisco Galeno, Heloísa Juaçaba, Ione Saldanha, Israel Pedrosa, Raymundo Colares, Rubem Ludolf, Ubi Bava and Ygor Landarin, among others. That plurality reinforces the gallery's commitment to valuing Brazilian production in its aesthetic and historical diversity.

With this selection, Galatea consolidates its presence at ArtRio as a space of dialogue between generations, connecting established practices and new perspectives that continue to expand the field of art in the country.
